easyStorage is proud to serve Barking. Here’s why!

Barking is located within East London, a 50-minute drive from Charing Cross. It began as an ancient fish and farming parish on the River Roding. It expanded to become a farming and fishing hub on the River Thames. Fisher Street in Barking owes its name to the town’s past. The leading industries in Barking from the 14th to the 19th century were fishing and boat building. Barking’s boat-building skills were used to repair Henry VIII’s royal ships.

Jute spinning and the manufacturing of paint and chemicals later replaced the nautical economy. With London's suburbs flourishing in the 20th century, Barking eventually became part of Greater London. The London Underground has served Barking Railway Station since 1854.

The area is home to Barking Abbey. The Abbey is known for holding many important figures in English history. King William The Conqueror, who famously led the Normans to victory in the Battle of Hastings in 1066, for example. When the Abbey was built in the seventh century, it originally served as a monastery for Saint Ethelburga, sister of Bishop of London. The Abbey ruins are now a public open space called "Abbey Green". The area is recognisable for its fully restored Listed Curfew Tower.

Another historical drawcard to Barking is Eastbury Manor House on Eastbury Square. These days it hosts a range of lifestyle education and community events. From the 1600s to the 20th century, it was a farming estate until the surrounding land was sold to developers. Surrounded by beautiful gardens at the heart of town, it's also often used as a wedding venue.

Located behind Ice House Studios on Abbey Road, it has a large terrace beside the river. The venue presents light meals, cocktails and craft beers. There’s also a guest DJ and live performances as part of the nightlife feature.

It serves authentic Indian, Asian and Bangladeshi cuisine. Then there’s the family-run AL’s Diner that has been serving up a traditional British menu for over 25 years.

Barking has green spaces too, such as The Chase Local Nature Reserve, Dagenham. A walk through The Chase is an excellent way to enjoy wildlife and nature away from the stresses of modern life. A walk through The Chase is a refreshing break for the family.

In one of the most popular park run events in England, Barking Park hosts a free entrance race every Saturday morning. The event starts at the tennis courts and stretches along the boating lake before returning to the courts. The course also runs along Longridge Road, a stretch of pavement home to a variety of trees that line the street.
